At Maria Fund we envision and dream of building a country where we are free, interdependent, and interconnected with each other and with the rest of the world. This dream requires that we fight for the access and right of all the communities of our archipelago to have a dignified life. Our mission and commitment is to strengthen a powerful and aligned ecosystem of leaders, organizations and social justice initiatives that are building the power of the people in Puerto Rico to give these struggles.
This commitment moves us to make visible, support and build the conditions to promote projects focused on communities that have historically been marginalized and threatened, and that lead their own movements and processes of organization and liberation. Trans and Non-Binary people are one of these communities, and. our commitment and path to justice extends to guarantee inclusion and equity. This commitment recognizes, amplifies and supports all claims related to:
The Trans and Non-Binary communities and people deserve to live fully and have all their needs for safety, health, and physical, mental, emotional, recreational, economic, cultural and social well-being covered to guarantee a DIGNIFIED LIFE.
The demands and fights for the RIGHTS of trans and non-binary people must be treated with the same relevance and priority among other political and social justice claims in our country.
The VOICES of Trans and Non-Binary people must be heard and amplified. No voice has the power or the right to silence them.
The rights of Trans and Non-Binary communities must be guaranteed as well as ACCESS to all tools, resources and platforms to feel empowered and represented in decision-making aspects that affects the political, cultural and social environment of our country and in the world. .
That Trans and Non-Binary people have existed exist now and in the future and should feel realistically and positively represented in any space or platform. We reject and denounce any attempt or intention to hide, obscure, misrepresent or minimize the EXISTENCE of Trans and Non-Binary people and communities.
We reject any intention or action that encourages or promotes to violate or attack the existence, rights or life of Trans and Non-Binary people. We intend and commit to constant learning to sustain spaces where they feel SAFE.
We honor, respect and recognize without the need for justification or explanation, the pronouns, gender IDENTITY, gender expressions and sexuality of Trans and Non-Binary people whatever it is now and in the future.
Trans people, non-binary people and their resistances are transversal and an essential part of the resistance and fight against gender violence, the anti-racist fight, the fight for decolonization, and any fight against oppressive systems that violate all of us.
