Support grassroots organizations in the aftermath of the most recent earthquakes in Puerto Rico.

The María Fund recognizes that this is a moment to TAKE ACTON. Below is a list of groups in our network with particular needs and working with or in the southwest region.


Campamento contra las Cenizas en Peñuelas.

Peñuelas

Organizers have indicated that their homes and those of family members have been impacted and have urgent needs. In addition, there are hundreds living in camps. They’ve emphasized the need for emotional and psychological support during these time. Specific needs include:

  • Drinking water

  • Food for community kitchens

  • Dog food

  • Solar panels/ lights


Brigada Solidaria del Oeste

Guánica: La Laguna, El Oasis, La Luna

The brigade visited  3 of 8 refugee camps, identifying the number of people living refugee camps: 200 people in Laguna, 120 in Oasis and about 80 people in Luna. They’ve emphasized the need for emotional and psychological support during these time. Specific needs include:

  • Drinking water

  • Portable camping toilets and showers

  • Solar lights and chargers

  • Food for community kitchens

  • Dog food

  • ECO FRIENDLY dishes and cutlery to avoid creating trash / rat problems, large plastic drawers with lids

  • clean drones with lid

  • sleeping bags/ tents / cots

Instituto Universitario para el desarrollo de las comunidades (IUDC)

Guánica

Our partners at the IUDC visited several sectors in Guánica to asses and respond to the needs of the people most impacted. As part of the needs they’ve identified are: Specific needs include:

  • Drinking water

  • Portable camping toilets and showers

  • Solar lights and chargers

  • Food for community kitchens

  • Dog food

  • ECO FRIENDLY dishes and cutlery to avoid creating trash / rat problems, large plastic drawers with lids

  • clean drones with lid

  • sleeping bags/ tents / cots


Espicy Nipples

Guayama: Francisco G. Bruno Street # 9 Guayama, Puerto Rico (Behind the Cautiño House)

Organizers are operating a collection and distribution center in Guayama. They are in the process of preparing natural medicine kits and making a census that assess the needs in the Guayama and Arroyo regions. Specific needs include:

  • Drinking Water

  • Healing items (essential oils, etc.)

  • Volunteers brigades for reconstruction 

  • Emergency backpacks

  • Food for community kitchen
